Supreme Novices Hurdle Betting Preview

Race Type: Hurdle

Distance: 2m ½ f

Race Profile: Traditionally the opening race of the festival, the Supreme Novices is open to novices of four years old an upwards. Run over the same distance as the Champion Hurdle it showcases jump stars of the future.

Ten Year Trends:

8 of the last 10 winners had won their last race.
7 of the last 10 winners had raced at least three times that season.
Only 2 of the last 10 winners have been aged seven or older.
7 of the last 10 winners were trained in Ireland.
The average starting price of the winner is 12/1

Race Preview: Ante post favourite is Cue Card, having only lost once in his career to the more experienced Menorah. Winner of the Champion Bumper last year, his record is two wins and one second at Cheltenham. Zaidpour heads the Irish challenge but two recent defeats when favourite have dented his credentials, including being turned over at 1/4. Recession Proof is the springer in the market after taking the Totespot Trophy at Newbury. No more than a useful flat horse he has been a revelation in hurdles winning three of his four races.
