Cheltenham Tips: Champion Court

Ran a big race in the Ryanair when taking on Cue Card, a repeat of that performance should put him close.

The National Hunt season is drawing to a close but the 3.55 Cheltenham affords me one last opportunity to sing the praises of Cue Card, albeit by proxy.

In the Ryanair, Champion Court tried to take on Cue Card by setting a strong gallop, unfortunately that ended up ruining his race because he was taking on one of the best horses of the season.

Champion Court threw everything at him, eventually tiring up the hill and finishing in fifth place. He was awarded an RPR of 161, matching his highest ever rating, but if he hadn’t served it up to Cue Card he would have finished much closer.

With different tactics he could have finished third, which would have earned him a rating around the 165 mark.

This is an important assumption because Menorah is the only horse in today’s field to have bettered a rating of 165, but he has to give a stone to Champion Court and is better on flat tracks.

This is a long winded way of saying if Champion Court replicates his Ryanair performance he is a good bet at 9/4 (Paddy Power) to win the race.
