Chelmsford: Lomu

Looks well-handicapped on his best form and that wasn't long ago. Clocked 21.56s final two-furlong split when good fourth at Lingfield having raced in rear of steadily run contest.

Lomu is 4lbs below his last winning mark and shaped as if coming back into form at Lingfield. He wasn’t suited by the way the race panned out; from a wide draw he was forced to race in rear behind a steady early gallop. The race developed into a sprint finish and despite clocking a rapid 21.56s closing split, he was coming from too far back.

A 1.5 length defeat was a good performance under the circumstances and the time was reasonable once adjusting for pace. The six-year-old isn’t a regular at Chelmsford finishing fourth on his only visit but he had no luck that day and might have won granted a clear passage. Perhaps he can gain long awaited recompense.
