Charlie Hall Chase Odds

An absolute diamond

The National Hunt season gets into gear with a fantastic renewal of the Charlie Hall. We preview runners in Saturday’s feature race at Wetherby.

With £100k in the prize fund, 8 runners line up for an excellent renewal of the Charlie Hall Chase. The race gets underway at 3.20 at Wetherby and is live on Channel 4.

Diamond Harry – 5/2 Bet365
Only had one outing last season, but he won the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury. Runs well fresh, and unbeaten when chasing on flat tracks.

Time For Rupert - 3/1 Coral
Was many people’s Cheltenham banker but came unstuck in the RSA Chase at the festival. Reported to have bled after the race, he can be excused. Has time on his side, but looks short enough in the betting considering he has yet to win a marquee race.

Poquelin - 9/2 Paddy Power
His chasing record at Cheltenham is 5 wins / 10 races. His record everywhere else is 1 win / 5 races.

Nacarat - 6/1 Boylesports
Defending champion returns looking for good ground. He is likely to get it but at 10-years-old his best days are probably behind him. The race is also a lot stronger than the one he won last year.

Weird Al - 14/1 Boylesports
A promising novice who has struggled badly with injury in recent years. This is a very hot contest to be making a comeback. You would prefer to have seen him run before parting with your cash, making him a risky proposition.

Chicago Grey - 11/1 VictorChandler
A useful horse but the trip is probably on the short side. Looks much more like a Grand National prospect.

Chief Dan George – 66/1 Boylesports
Highly tried last year but with little success. Looks better suited to the Nationals.

Acrai Rua – 500/1 Victor Chandler
Looks hopelessly outclassed.
