Catterick Tips: Northern Bolt
Twice a course winner and testing conditions should mean the field come back to him at the finish.
There are limited betting opportunities around with the 2.40 Catterick the only all-age sprint in the country today. It is a low quality seller and I wouldn’t get carried away backing short prices. You have to think if a horse was a rock solid performer they wouldn’t be racing in this grade.
At a bigger price i’m inclined to take a chance on Northern Bolt. Catterick seems to bring the best out in him, with two wins and two places from six starts. The soft conditions are also ideal. He has won three times on similar ground and never won on anything quicker than good.
He is a habitual slow starter and often loses his races by falling out of the gates. There is a risk this happens again, but there is so much pace in the race, combined with testing conditions, the field should be coming back to him at the finish. If he can keep himself in touch he could pick them off at 14/1 (Bet365).
