Catterick Racing Tip: Kersivay

Kersivay at Catterick

Has the early pace to make use of a good draw and has an excellent apprentice jockey on board.

The 2.20 at Catterick is the first turf race of the season and it would be rude not to put up a selection. As luck would have it there is a good little angle to the race. In big fields it pays to be drawn low to get that far rail. It is also a sharp downhill course where it pays to be prominent.

Drawn one, with plenty of early pace is Kersivay. He has spent most of the winter racing in moderate all weather races but at least he arrives race fit and raring to go. Most of his racing has been over six furlongs but he does have early speed to be competitive over five. Crucially he has enough pace to bag that far rail. A rare runner on turf, his only win did come at Catterick as a three year old, so it is proven that he handles the track.

The one negative is that this is an apprentice race; where the jockeys can be very inexperienced riders. This can often lead to funny results due to races being run at an odd pace or because of interference. Thankfully we have the promising Matthew Cosham on board but in this type of race I recommend being more circumspect with your staking plan.
