Catterick Dash Tip: Verinco

The perfect horse for this downhill dash. Loves to front run and has fared well in better company.

Drawn in stall 1 on the inside rail, Verinco has the plum draw in the 2.55 at Catterick. An out and out speedball, there are very few horses than can lead him. In the Portland, nothing could get close to him until he ran out of steam in the final 150 yards.

They key to this horse is judging the pace. When you get it right, he can be very good, as he showed when winning a Carlisle handicap by five lengths. His jockey that day was Justin Newman; he retains the ride and needs to repeat those tactics.

Catterick has one of the sharpest five-furlong tracks in the country. Even on soft ground stamina shouldn’t come into play, with prominent runners always fairing well at this course. Verinco could slip the field and win at 8/1 (Ladbrokes) without ever seeing a rival.
