Brighton Tips: Wooden King

A win and a second from two starts over course and distance. Cheek-pieces reapplied after helping him win last season.

With a win and a second place in two starts over course and distance, Wooden King should run well in the 3.10 Brighton.

He was beaten by only 3.25 lengths on his reappearance at Chepstow and like most of Malcolm Saunders’ horses he should come on for the run. The west country trainer has a 4.3% strike rate with runners returning after a 100+ day lay off, compared to his usual 11% strike rate on turf.

The cheek-pieces are also back on for this first time in five starts. Last year he won the first time he wore them and connections must hope they do the trick again.

If Brighton avoids any rain, then the good to firm conditions will suit Wooden King and at 11/2 (Paddy Power) he has plenty in his favour.
