Brighton Tips: The Strig

Two-time course and distance winner, handles soft ground and will enjoy the strong pace.

The fly in the ointment in the 5.20 Brighton is Threave. She won her second career start by four lengths but the time wasn’t spectacular and she beat a very moderate bunch – she could be anything.

Assuming Threave isn’t a world beater, and at the prices isn’t worth the risk,  then the obvious bet in the race is The Strig. He’s a two-time course and distance winner, including on soft ground last year. Most importantly he should get the strong pace he needs with several front-runners in the lineup.

With conditions in his favour, I’d be surprised if he didn’t go close at 7/2 (Paddy Power).
