Brighton Tips: Dear Maurice

Gone close on his last two starts and ran well against a strong draw bias at Folkestone.

The official description of the going at Brighton is ‘soft, good to soft in places’ but a Going Stick reading of 5.9 is the lowest recorded at the track in five years. Conditions could be very testing therefore it is prudent to be a bit more cautious with our staking.

Having gone 2-mile hurdling last season, stamina should not be an issue for Dear Maurice. Converted into a sprinter, he has performed with credit, finishing second on his last two outings.

Last week at Folkestone, he did well to get within 0.25 lengths of the winner considering he was forced to race down the middle of the track, often the slowest part on the course.

He has proven he handles Brighton’s downhill track and at 10/3 (Ladbrokes) he looks the best bet in the 2.45.
