Brighton Tip: Summerinthecity

Recapturing his form after an injury hit season. Winner in a much higher grade this time last year.

Two days ago, Go Nani Go showcased Ed de Giles’ skills of revitalising injury prone horses. He was unlucky not to win at Lingfield but we have an immediate chance for compensation with Summerinthecity in the 5.10 at Brighton.

Last year when trained by Jeremy Noseda, the horse won a class two, 0-100 rated handicap. Today he races in a class four, 0-85 handicap. It is a considerable drop in class, if the horse recapture his old form then he should win.

His 20/1 quote suggests it isn’t quite so straightforward and it isn’t. Injury has taken it’s toll on the horse, this is only his third run in almost a year. After an encouraging debut in May, he didn’t race again for four months.  According to Ed de Giles’ blog, ‘Summerinthecity has had a break with a few niggles but ran very well at Doncaster for his come back run.’

He built on that comeback run with a four length defeat at Haydock four weeks ago. He was travelling well for a long way but never got the gaps. Nevertheless, he finished close to the winner having never been asked for an effort.

On his third run back from a layoff, he should be race fit and raring to go. The good to firm ground is a slight concern, but the clerk has been watering the track and the going stick suggests it is nowhere near as firm as Brighton can be. At 20/1 with Ladbrokes he rates a cracking bet.
