Breeders' Cup Mile: Oscar Performance
Won two of last three starts which include track record at Belmont and fine victory in Woodbine Mile. At his best at a mile and arrives fresh after going over the top at this meet twelve months ago.
Betting options today include small fields of National Hunt horses, moderate all-weather action and the world championships of horse racing - no contest really.
There is plenty of European interest in the Breeders’ Cup Mile but i’m banking on Oscar Performance improving on last year’s effort. By his trainer’s admission he was going off the boil when 9th in the Breeders’ Cup turf after a long 3-year-old campaign and he’s been used more sparingly this season.
He set a course record in winning the Poker Stakes at Belmont Park in June and most recently won the Woodbine Mile in fine style. In between he was pulled up in the Arlington Million but we can ignore that run as he finished distressed.
At his best at a mile, this is the right race for him and on paper looks the horse to beat. He shouldn’t be 6/1.
