Breeders Cup Betting 2012

There are no less than nine Grade 1 races on Saturday; we preview the races with a European interest.

18.50 Breeders´ Cup Juvenile Turf 1m
Roger Charlton’s Dundonnell heads the betting at 7/2 (Paddy Power) but it is difficult to separate many of these on form. On ratings George Vancouver looks the best bet; he finished 3.5 lengths behind Dawn Approach in the Dewhurst and should improve on the quicker ground at Santa Anita. This will be the first time he’s tackled a mile, but on an oval his speed over a shorter distance is an asset.
Selection: George Vancouver at 7/1 (Bet365)

22.18 Breeders´ Cup Turf 1m4f
St. Nicholas Abbey is 7/2 (William Hill) to defend the title he won at Churchill Downs.  His European campaign has been similar to last year, with a win in the Coronation Cup and defeat everywhere else. Therefore I wouldn’t read too much into his heavy defeat in the Prix De L’Arc de Triomphe.

His biggest challenger looks like Point Of Entry (4/1 Paddy Power), unbeaten over the trip with three consecutive Grade 1 victories to his name.
Selection: St. Nicholas Abbey at 7/2 (William Hill)

23.40 Breeders´ Cup Mile (Turf) 1m
Excelebration (2/1 Ladbrokes) is favourite for the race after his QEII victory at Ascot, but he faces a completely different set of conditions.  American races often develop into a sprint finish and he could be tapped for pace, considering he’s best over a stiff mile on soft ground.

If the race develops into a sprint down the stretch then Moonlight Cloud can capiliatise.  Runner-up in the Golden Jubilee he has the pace to be a sprinter, but also retains enough stamina to win over 7f. He should get an easy mile in these conditions and can deploy a potent turn of foot.
Selection: Moonlight Cloud at 9/2 (Betfred)
