Betway Bowl Tip: Clan Des Obeaux

Didn't get home in Gold Cup but reduction in trip combined with flatter track works in his favour. Conditions more like he faced in King George and he delivered career best that day.

The Betway Bowl pits together those who failed to score at the Festival but Aintree provides a different test and that will suit some more than others.

In my preview for the Gold Cup I discussed how Bristol De Mai is best caught fresh, that argument seems to hold water based on his third place finish but running 20-days after that huge effort doesn’t bode well.

Kemboy didn’t even make it round Cheltenham so he’s got it all to prove again, which leaves us with Clas Des Obeaux. The 7-year-old has been a revelation stepped up to 3-miles this season but 3m2.5f was beyond him in the Gold Cup.

A step back in trip, combined with a flat track apes the conditions he faced at Kempton when winning the King George in fine style. A repeat of that run should see him win at he’s a shade big at 5/2 under the circumstances.
