The six furlong Group One sprints have largely been disappointing this year. The Golden Jubilee was blighted by soft ground and a track bias, where as the July Cup produced a slow time after the field ambled through the first two furlongs.

The outstanding sprinter of the year has been plying his trade in handicaps. His name is Hoof It and he can now make his mark at the top table. Winner of the Steward’s Cup, he achieved his victory in a fast time and by a big margin for such a competitive race.

Last time out in the Nunthorpe he raced alone up the middle and was too isolated. He doesn’t have the raw speed for five furlongs and a two length defeat was a good performance in the circumstances.
