Betfair Chase Tips: Silviniaco Conti
Soft ground and a flat track suit him much better than Bobs Worth who might have to wait until Cheltenham to gain his revenge.
The 3.00 Haydock is a terrific renewal of the Betfair Chase and I doubt you’ll see a stronger race before the Gold Cup.
However, this isn’t Cheltenham and that is important to flag up. Bobs Worth enjoys at 100% record at Prestbury Park but his two chase defeats came away from his favourite track.
We saw in the Gold Cup that Bobs Worth can get outpaced and that cost him twice during his novice career, most notably in the 2011 Feltham Chase when he finished behind Silviniaco Conti.
Two years have passed but it’s a valuable piece of form because it highlights the difference between the two horses.
Silviniaco Conti has the opposite problem to Bobs Worth; he struggles on an undulating course and has been beaten both times at Cheltenham. However, racing in soft ground on a flat track the 7-year-old can be magnificent. He won last year’s Betfair Chase by 2.5 lengths and although this looks like a tough renewal he should be improving.
I wouldn’t rush to back Silviniaco Conti for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, but he’s got optimal conditions at Haydock and can win the Betfair Chase at 11/4 (Bet365).
