Ayr Tips: Royal Duchess
Excellent record at Ayr but needs the leaders to slow at the finish because of pace or going. Both could happen.
Royal Duchess has become a fixture at Ayr racecourse with 18 of her 32 career starts coming at the track, as well as her four victories.
The Scottish venue combined with 7f are her ideal conditions but she is also somewhat ground dependant. Her course record on going rated soft is 221175.
Her running style also has something to do with this quirk. She is often slowly into stride and needs the leaders to come back to her, either via a pace collapse or leaders tiring in the ground. On her last start she was undone by a steady early gallop and despite being the fastest closer by 0.22s she couldn’t make up the lost ground.
In a big field on soft ground, she might have the race set-up for her strong finish.
