Ascot: Jonah Jones

Hampered at start and then again when closing on stable debut at Haydock. Despite all this clocked adjusted speed rating of 90; a return to the promise he displayed as a 2-year-old.

Ed Walker has a strong hand to play in the 3.50 Ascot and either by luck or judgement he has runners side-by-side in stalls 19 and 20. It remains to be seen whether a high draw is an advantage but at least there is a plan.

Mountain Peak clocked a big speed rating at Haydock but I suspect he is best on quicker ground and that leaves the door open to Jonah Jones. He also ran at Haydock last time out but he was luckless. Squeezed out at the start, he found himself racing in rear and away from the pace (they came up the stand’s rail). Then when trying to make a charge, Oisin Murphy found traffic problems and was badly hampered.

Even after all that misfortune Joan Jones still finished third, clocked the second fastest closing sectional, and earned an adjusted speed rating of 90. He’s shown this level ability before, when sprinting as a juvenile. He lost his way at three, having run over 7f and a mile but he profiles like a sprinter and one to keep onside.
