Aintree Tips: Wishfull Thinking

Has a good record at Aintree (second in this race in 2012) and he'll struggle to find a weaker Grade 1.

Wishfull Thinking has come up short in Grade 1 company on six occasions but he’s going to struggle to find a weaker version than the Melling Chase (3.05).

Module with an official mark of 164 is the top rated horse in the field, leaving Wishfull Thinking the only other horse rated in the 160s. To put this into context, last year’s renewal featured four horses rated 170 or higher.

Everything happened too quickly for the 11-year-old in the Champion Chase but he was only beaten 13 lengths and will improve for the step up in trip.

Wishfull Thinking won at Aintree as a novice and has finished runner-up on three separate occasions at the track, including in the 2012 Melling Chase.

He looks overpriced at 7/1 (Stan James) against modest Grade 1 opposition.
