Aintree Racing Tips: West End Rocker

Wayne Hutchinson is 3/4 when taking the ride and the horse will relish the test.

The Becher Chase (2.10 Aintree) is an exciting spectacle as it is run over the Grand National fences at Aintree. This trip is less demanding with the race 3m2f, however the obstacles still require some jumping.

For my selection I’m calling on Grand National experience with West End Rocker. He was actually my headline National tip back in April but the race didn’t go to plan as he was brought down at the 6th. Up until then jockey Robert Thornton said the horse was “jumping like a buck” as he relished the fences.

Recent form isn’t encouraging as West End Rocker was pulled up at Cheltenham. The undulating track might not have been to his liking and I’m happy to forgive the horse one bad run. Hark back to last winter and he was an exciting staying prospect. He won back to back races at Newbury and Warwick, the latter in a Grade Three contest.

The key to this horse seems to be Wayne Hutchinson; the jockey’s record on board is 111P. That last result is excusable as it occurred in atrocious conditions at Haydock when the ground was virtually impassable. At 14/1 (Bet365) he rates the value in the race and can hopefully win a few people their Grand National stakes back.
