Aintree Tips: The Giant Bolster
Doesn’t have much to find on form with Silviniaco Conti despite being ten times the price. Better ground should help bridge the gap.
The Giant Bolster has now finished second and fourth in consecutive Gold Cups but he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Perhaps if he was with a Nicholls or a Henderson he’d be half the price for the 2.30 Aintree.
His Gold Cup fourth was particularly creditable because it was run on soft ground; he is a much better horse on good ground, which he gets today.
In the Betfair Chase in November, he was only seven lengths behind Silviniaco Conti despite hating the ground and his rival having a run under his belt. If Silviniaco Conti had stayed on his feet at Cheltenham, I reckon they would have finished around the same position.
Given the disparity in their prices the value must be with backing The Giant Bolster at 10/1 (Bet365).
