Aintree Tips: Standing Ovation

Shot up the weights this season but the handicapper is struggling to keep up. Front running style should keep him out of trouble.

Standing Ovation sneaks into the Topham Chase (3.40 Aintree) off bottom weight and should run a big race.

The 7-year-old has been highly progressive this season, winning four times. Having started the campaign rated 94, I don’t think the handicapper has caught up with him yet.

In November, he beat a bunch of honest handicappers in a Listed chase at Wincanton; travelling well throughout, he was full value for his five length win.

David Pipe gave him a winter break to keep him away from bad ground and he showed up well at the Cheltenham Festival last month when sixth in a competitive handicap.

This will be his first start over National fences but he jumps, gallops and stays and that should keep him out of trouble.

At 12/1 (Bet365) he rates an excellent each-way bet with Bet365 going ¼ odds for a top-5 finish.
