Aintree Tips: Smad Place

In a truly run race he should turnaround the World Hurdle form as Solwhit and Celestial Halo are both doubtful stayers.

The first three home in the World Hurdle reconvene for the Liverpool Hurdle (2.50 Aintree) but I doubt they will finish in the same positions.

The World Hurdle was a very strange race because everyone stood still when the tapes went up. It resulted in a farcically slow time and by cantering the first three furlongs it turned the race into a 2m5f contest.

It’s no surprise the horses with superior speed fought out the finish. Solwhit and Celestial Halo are smart horses but none of their 22 victories has come at three miles, two came at 2m4f and the rest were at two miles. They are not three-mile hurdlers; for that reason I am happy to take them on at Aintree.

Smad Place is a more genuine 3-miler, he has finished third in the last two World Hurdles and recording numerous placed efforts in Graded contests over the distance.

He was tapped for speed in the dash for the line at Cheltenham but stayed on to suggest he could turnaround the form in a truly run race. At 6/1 (Bet365) he looks the best bet.
