Aintree Tips: Riverside Theatre

Won the Ryanair at Cheltenham thanks to his stamina and should relish the step up in trip. Also has a King George second on his CV.

The 3.05 Aintree is a cracking renewal of the Betfred Bowl Chase. The big question is whether to side with the Gold Cup form or Ryanair form we saw at Cheltenham - I am siding with the latter.

Riverside Theatre made me sit up when he won a cracking Ryanair Chase, a race for which I gave him no chance. I didn’t think he’d like the track and thought the contest came too soon.

Since then I’ve had to completely revaluate my opinion of the horse; now I rate him a potential Gold Cup winner. The way Barry Geraghty niggled him along early in the race suggested that 2m5f is now the minimum trip for the horse; the further he goes the better. He wasn’t exactly stopping as he came flying up Cheltenham’s hill.

A year ago, he finished second in a King George behind Long Run, a race that is run over 3m. I have no worries that he will get today’s 3m1f trip. He has clocked five excellent Topspeed figures in a row suggesting Riverside Theatre is the real deal and therefore great value at 10/3 with Betfred.
