Aintree Tips: Noble Prince

Steps up to his optimal trip after being campaigned over 2miles for the majority of last season.

The National Hunt season is starting to get into gear and the 3.30 Aintree offers the first, of hopefully many, good betting opportunities.

Having spent most of last season running over 2miles, Noble Prince steps up to 2m4f today, which I think is his optimum trip. He was triumphant over this distance in the 2011 Jewson Novices’ Chase, still the biggest win of his career.

Paul Nolan’s 8-year-old put up some big performances in defeat to Big Zeb last year, but the horse doesn’t quite have the pace for the minimum distance. The Ryanair looked the ideal target but unfortunately he got injured during the race so we didn’t get to see his full potential.

Noble Prince is a borderline Grade 1 performer and receiving 6lbs from Wishfull Thinking looks generous. He’s won on his seasonal reappearance in each of the last 3 years and at 11/2 (Stan James) he is overpriced.
