Aintree Tips: Mr Moonshine

Struggles to put two good runs together but his fourth place in the Grade 2 Old Roan Chase shows he has plenty of ability.

Ryan Mania enjoyed the best day of his career back in April by winning the Grand National and he could complete a remarkable double over the National fences with Mr Moonshine in the 2.05 Aintree.

The 9-year-old was pulled up in the Grand National but he managed to get most of the way round, providing a useful experience of these unique fences.

Once rated in the 150s, Mr Moonshine has slipped to his lowest mark in over two years but there is enough encouragement to get involved at 33/1.

Sue Smith’s chaser kicked off the season with a fine run in the Old Roan Chase, he was only beaten 7.25 lengths in the Grade 2 contest despite racing from out of the handicap.

He’s been inconsistent since then, losing when favourite over an inadequate trip at Kelso and then struggling in soft ground at Haydock.

Mr Moonshine is an inconsistent horse, but he is capable of running significantly above his handicap mark and therefore at 33/1 (Boylesports) he is worth the risk. Back him each-way and get 1/4 odds for a top-five finish.
