Aintree Tips: Menorah
Runner-up in the race last year and record on flat tracks with going good to soft or better is 1212211F12.
The Betfred Bowl (2.30 Aintree) is a fascinating race because it requires interpretation of some peculiar Cheltenham form.
It is 20 days since the Gold Cup and I’m still no nearer explaining the result. Silviniaco Conti came to win the race but couldn’t get it done, even though stamina was supposedly his forte.
Sectional timings suggest the race wasn’t run at a blistering gallop and therefore a logical conclusion is to have a dim view of the form.
Dynaste represents winning Festival form but it was stamina that got him home in a Ryanair run at a strong pace.
At short prices, neither appeal so instead I’m going with last year’s runner-up Menorah.
He arrives on the back of a shocking effort at Cheltenham but that always seems the case. Last year he was pulled up in the Ryanair before giving First Lieutenant a fright at Aintree.
It seems a flat track and decent ground is crucial to his chances.
Record by track & going
Flat track w/ going good to soft or better: 1212211F12
Undulating track or soft ground: 11154U434313U2U0
With conditions to suit and the favourites vulnerable, Menorah is a good bet at 12/1 (Ladbrokes).
