Aintree Tips: Diakali

Finished a fine fourth in the County Hurdle off top weight and a Grade 1 winner over 2m4f in France.

The New One is hot favourite for the Aintree Hurdle (3.05) but his price doesn’t appeal.

He was one of the hard luck stories at Cheltenham but it is wrong to assume he would have won the Champion Hurdle with a clear passage.

Diakali was another horse to suffer interference at the Festival, although nowhere near as catastrophic, when finishing fourth in the County Hurdle.

Carrying 11-12 over a trip short of his best, it was some performance by the 5-year-old.

The Racing Post gave him a rating of 160, which makes him the joint third best horse in the race with Ptit Zig, a horse he beat by 7 lengths in Auteuil last June.

On top of his Grade 1 win in France, Diakali finished 2.25 lengths behind Jezki over 2m4f at Fairyhouse in December, which gives a solid look to his form.

We would need The New One to underperform to win the race, but second place is up for grabs and at 10/1 (Bet365), Diakali is a solid each-way bet with ¼ odds for a top-2 finish.
