Zurich Classic Golf Tips: Troy Merritt

troy merritt

Third last year and finished well at The Heritage after an appalling start.

Our final pick for the Zurich Classic is a leftfield selection, Troy Merritt. In only his second season on the PGA Tour, the 25 year old has time on his side. Lately he has shown that he is getting to grips with the demands of the tour having made two consecutive cuts.

A finish of T52 at The Heritage looks innocuous but he started the first five holes of his tournament five over par. To bounce back from such a wretched start and make the cut shows the character of the player. Merritt ended the tournament at one-under but if he had parred those holes on Thursday he would have enjoyed a T14 finish instead.

Looking at his statistics for the four rounds, it was putting that let him down. His iron play was generally solid, ranking T30 and that will be tested at the TPC Louisiana. His course form is good; a third place finish here was by far his best last year. With a game in good order, the 250/1 with Coral could look massive come Sunday.
