WGC Match Play Tip: Si Woo Kim

Streaky player but a big danger. Reached the round of 16 last year and arrives in good form. Ranked 8th on tour for birdie average and putting is getting consistently better; 29th in strokes gained.

The WGC Match Play is a tricky event to evaluate. The market is swayed by the draw and a seemingly unfavourable one pushes out the price but this format is a sprint (only 3 round robin games) and then anything can happen so i’m happy to take a player with a ‘bad draw’.

Si Woo Kim is the lowest ranked played in a group featuring Jon Rahm, Matt Kuchar and JB Holmes but he is also the streakiest. The key for the Korean is his putting, which can vary from amazing to abject but in matchplay he only needs to win half the holes (or less). He did enough to get out of the group stages 12 months ago and he returns in even better form.

Si Woo Kim bagged consecutive top-4s at Pebble Beach and the Genesis Open and is 9/12 cuts made this season; a rare outbreak of consistency. Winner of the 2017 Players Championship, he already has a big title to his name and he shouldn’t be written off at 125/1.

Paddy Power are paying 8 places at 1/5 odds.
