WGC Mexico Championship: Kiradech Aphibarnrat

Won twice in his last seven starts and although yet to make his mark at the highest level he's got the creativity to thrive on a quirky course.

The WGC Mexico Championship was a really enjoyable tournament to watch last year and it proved that you don’t need a massively long course to curtail the bombers on tour. Narrow, firm and fast does the trick. Last year’s leaderboard had a European Tour flavour to it, with the likes of Fleetwood, Hatton, Pieters and Ross Fisher all inside the top-10.

The more strategic nature of the course perhaps lends itself to those on the European Tour who play a wide variety of courses and that has drawn me to the charms of Kiradech Aphibarnrat.

The 28-year-old has worked really hard on his game over the past 12 months and is starting to reap the rewards. A winner twice in his last seven starts he’s a triple figure price because of the dubious calibre of those events. However, a win is a win and he was also runner-up in the DP World Tour Championship so he has form at a high level.

With only one top-20 finish in 11 WGC starts he needs to make the step up in grade but he’s got the creativity in his game to adapt to the challenges in Mexico.
