28th Apr 2014 | Wells Fargo

Steely Competitor At 150/1

Inconsistent but plenty of bright spots this year and is deceptively long off the tee.

There have been plenty of changes to the greens at Quail Hollow but the course still demands length off the tee.

The ‘shortest’ winner of the Wells Fargo in recent years was Lucas Glover, who still ranked 63rd on tour for driving distance. If power is a prerequisite then Brendan Steele must make the short list.

The 31-year-old doesn’t look like a bomber but he is sneakily long, ranking 21st for driving distance and 24th for total driving.

Steele’s career hasn’t kicked on since his 2011 victory in the Valero Texas Open but there has been enough encouragement to suggest a second win isn’t far away.

The Californian finished T6 at the Phoenix Open and T10 at the Northern Trust Open and although there have been too many missed cuts (5), often his best performances come from out of the blue.

Having twice made the weekend at Quail Hollow he is a decent each-way bet at 150/1 (Bet365) with ¼ odds for at top-5 finish.
