US Open Tips: John Rahm

Leading amateur at Oakmont and winner at a US Open venue already this season. Already has the game to win a major.

It’s a measure of John Rahm meteoric rise that he is fifth in the betting for a major championship but there is an argument to suggest he should be even shorter.

The 22-year-old has already won on tour this season, at Torrey Pines a US Open venue and his game is perfect for a classic USGA test. Ranked inside the top-6 on tour for strokes gained off the tee and with approaches to the green, he is also seventh in adjusted scoring average.

The young tyro also has some handy major experience under his belt. He was leading amateur at Oakmont last year and his major record is 23-59-27. Runner-up in the Match Play and third in the WGC Mexico, his is a big time player and won’t be overawed if in contention.

There is no doubt Rahm is a star in the making and his age is no barrier to winning. At 20/1 he is a cracking each-way bet with Sky Bet paying 8 places at 1/5 odds.
