United Leasing & Finance Championship Tip: Kevin Dougherty

Hits the ball a mile but has enough in the rest of his game to sit 10th in the all-around rankings. Has three top-10s this season and made the cut at US Open last year.

The United Leasing & Finance Championship is one of the toughest events on the Web.com Tour, scoring is difficult with Victoria National providing a stern test. With that in mind, you need a player whose game is in good shape because mistakes will be punished.

One player trending in the right direction is Kevin Dougherty. Most readers will never have heard of him before but the 26-year-old Californian is playing some excellent golf.

Dougherty started the year with conditional status after finishing T42 at Q-School but he’s made the most of his opportunities. He is 19th on the Money List and has made his last seven cuts, with three top-10s the most recent coming in the North Mississippi Classic.

Long off the tee (he averages 316-yards), he is also relatively straight and is tenth on the tour’s all-around ranking. Last year he came through regional qualifying to make it to the US Open and made the weekend at Errin Hills, I expect he will eclipse that achievement by winning on tour this season.
