Turkish Airline Open Tips: Ross Fisher

Has four top-10 finishes in his last six starts and the tree-lined Maxx Royal course is reminiscent of his home club.

The Turkish Airlines Open makes it debut on the European Tour this week and it is a sign of the times that Turkey is capable of hosting one of the European Tour’s richest tournaments.

The Montgomerie Maxx Royal is one of a whole heap of new courses in Antalya, a strip of Mediterranean coastline that is challenging Spain and Portugal’s golf tourism hegemony.

Cut through dense pine-forest the Maxx Royal has the feel of an old-fashioned Surrey/Berkshire course and that leads me to my first selection – Ross Fisher.

Having grown up in Ascot and been a member of Wentworth, the tree-lined nature of the Maxx Royal should remind Fisher of home.

More importantly, the Englishman arrives in excellent form with four top-10 finishes in his last six starts. Back to his best, he is a solid each-way bet at 40/1 (Paddy Power) with ¼ odds for at top-5 finish.
