29th May 2012 | The Memorial Tournament

Memorial Tips: Rickie Fowler

A win and two top-5s in his last three starts. Led the field in birdies last year and runner-up in 2010.

Winning the Wells Fargo was a watershed moment in the career of Rickie Fowler. After all the hype, he finally delivered and the pressure has lifted from his shoulders.

Since that win at Quail Hollow, he has finished T2 at The Players and T5 at Colonial, making him one of the hottest golfers in the US right now.

At 20/1 (Blue Square) I’m backing him to continue that form at Memorial, a tournament in which he finished runner-up in 2010. Even last year’s T22 was full of promise, suggesting the course suits him.

Fowler strung together a quite remarkable four rounds of golf where he had equal numbers of pars and birdies, 26 of each. This is an area where the 23-year-old has dramatically improved. This season he ranks T25 for bogey avoidance, compared to 144th last year.

If he avoids the dropped shots, Fowler could go seriously low at Muirfield Village, especially whilst his confidence is sky high. Back him each way at 20/1 (Blue Square) and get ¼ odds for a top-6 finish.
