The McGladrey Classic Tips: David Hearn

Ranked 15th on tour for strokes gained putting and runner-up in the John Deere Classic, a tournament that is also decided on the greens.

Having risen to number 32 in the world, Graham DeLaet has been one of the surprise packages of 2013 and that could inspire fellow Canadian David Hearn to victory in the McGladrey Classic.

The 34-year-old from Ontario has enjoyed his best season on tour, finishing 53rd in the FedEx Cup and coming close to his maiden tour victory in the John Deere Classic, eventually losing in a playoff to Jordan Spieth.

His performance at Deere Run is significant because it’s a tournament that usually descends into a putting competition, much like the McGladery Classic.

Last season Hearn ranked 15th on tour for strokes gained putting and with the Sea Island course measuring a manageable 7,005 yards, his lack of distance off the tee isn’t a disadvantage.

Having spent most of the year backing DeLaet to break his duck, David Hearn could end up being the Canadian to follow at 100/1 (William Hill).
