The McGladrey Classic Tips: Billy Horschel

Halfway leader in 2011 and looked in good form at the Frys.com Open, shooting 67-65 in the first two rounds.

Billy Horschel took this course apart for two rounds last year and he arrives in a similar vein of form. The halfway leader in 2011 after shooting two rounds of 64, he faded over the weekend, eventually finishing T20.

It was a similar story last week at the Frys.com Open, he shared the lead at one point on Friday afternoon only to finish T29 on Sunday. This has been a common theme all season; Horschel ranks 19th for scoring average before the cut but 134th for final round scoring average.

At 25-years-old, it is too early to label him a ‘choker’; it is more a lack of experience that has caused the problems. He certainly has the ability to win a PGA Tour event and at 45/1 (Bet365) I’m backing him to overcome this mental barrier. With ¼ odds for a top-5 finish, even a wobble on Sunday could give us a good payout.
