JB Hansen Can Shock At 300/1

Started the season quietly but a T47 in Malaysia was encouraging, only his putter prevented him from finishing higher.

My final selection for the Championship at Laguna National is a 300/1 outsider but at those prices you only need the slightest glimmer of hope.

JB Hansen is almost impossible to predict but at his best he is a very dangerous player. He rose to prominence last year at the Scottish Open, going into the final round tied for second with Phil Mickelson.

The most astonishing aspect of his tournament was a quadruple bogey on the second hole on Sunday. Most players would implode but he rallied with seven birdies in the next eight holes.

The Dane eventually finished T3 but it was his strength of character more than his play that impressed.

The 23-year-old hasn’t done much this season, starting with nine missed cuts but there were encouraging signs at the NH Collection Open and Malaysian Open where he finished T47.

In Malaysia he ranked 7th for driving accuracy and 11th of GIRs, suggesting his ball striking is in good shape.

He is the type of player to ignite from nowhere; his T3 finish at the Scottish Open came on the back of four missed cuts and at 300/1 (Stan James) he is worth the risk.
