WGC St Jude: Corey Conners
Tee-to-green he is up there with the best and although he struggles on the greens there has been an improvement of almost half a stroke per round with the putter since lockdown.
Since the resumption of the PGA Tour there’s been plenty of high quality golf and tee-to-green not many have played better than Corey Conners. The Canadian ranks in the top-20 on tour for strokes gained off the tee, with approaches and for GIRs. His finishes read: 19-21-MC-39-22 and given the elite ball-striking you probably already guessed that his putter can let him down.
As a glass half-full type of person I can actually see improvement on the greens if you examine strokes gained putting:
Pre lockdown: -0.915
Post lockdown: -0.476
True, he is still losing almost half a stroke to the field per round but that is almost half a stroke improvement on what went before and golf is a game of fine margins. His record at TPC Southwind is MC-68-27 which suggests improvement and he is a much better player now than a couple of years ago; he has a tour win to his name for starters.
The field is deep but Conners holds more positives than those of a similar three figure price.
Betfred are paying 6 places at 1/5 odds.
