St Jude Classic Tips: Chez Reavie

Finished T11 at Colonial on his last start where he ranked first for driving accuracy and third for GIRs.

Like Camilo Villegas my third tip is a player starting to find form after a wretched 2012. Things got so bad for Chez Reavie that he had to go to Q-School, only just retaining his card with a T22 finish.

It is an experience I doubt the 31-year-old wants to repeat. Sat 118th in the FedEx Cup standings he still has a long way to go but he’s shown some good form in the last couple of weeks.

He followed up a T21 at the Byron Nelson with a T11 at Colonial where he played his best golf of the year, the highlight being a second round of 64.

Tee to green, he couldn’t be playing much better. At Colonial he ranked 1st for driving accuracy and T3 for GIR and his approach play has been excellent all year. He ranks 5th on tour for proximity to the hole with approach shots, which should stand him in good stead this week.

Last year TPC Southwind had the sixth lowest GIR percentage on tour and with greens averaging just 5,420 square feet in size,  the need for accuracy is at a premium.

At 150/1 (Coral) with ¼ odds for a top-5 finish, Chez Reavie looks a lively outsider.
