Top American Points Scorer: Rickie Fowler

Finished in the top-5 in all four majors and therefore used to playing under the most intense pressure. Likely to play in all five sessions.

Ian Poulter might be the talisman of the European Team but Rickie Fowler is the heartbeat of the American side.

The 25-year-old finished in the top-5 in all four Majors this season and has been in red-hot form on the PGA Tour. In his last eight tournaments, he has seven top-10 finishes.

A popular member of the team, Tom Watson could in theory pair him with anyone. This might work against Fowler if he is paired with one of the ‘lesser’ players but in all likelihood he will start with Jimmy Walker and switch to Phil Mickelson if the Mickelson/Bradley partnership goes south.

With youth on his side, there is a chance he plays in all five sessions; his game equally adaptable to fourballs or foursomes.

At 11/2 (William Hill) he holds a realistic chance of being the top American points scorer but I recommend taking the 5/1 with Skybet because losing stakes are refunded if USA win the Ryder Cup.
