Rocket Mortgage Classic: Chase Seiffert

Returned from break with a solid ball-striking performance on the Korn Ferry Tour. This is obviously harder but he's made 9/13 cuts on the PGA Tour and his last top-5 came in this part of the US.

The PGA Tour remains in the north for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club and it has the weakest (although still strong) field since resumption of activities. It is perhaps the first event where you can envisage an outsider winning, just as Nate Lashley did last year. So which one?

I’m getting to the point where Chase Seiffert is going to fall off my list but I still can’t shake how good he was on the Korn Ferry Tour last year. He was matching Scottie Scheffler and Robbie Shelton during the summer and was probably one of the top-5 players to earn promotion from that tour.

His transition has been solid rather than spectacular. Seiffert has made 9/13 cuts but with nothing better than a T21 finish. Since the resumption of the PGA Tour he’s been unable to get a start but I was encouraging by his T46 finish at the Korn Ferry Challenge. He finished the week ranked T3 for driving accuracy, T20 for distance and T21 for GIRs. The ball-striking was there, he just ranked last in putts per GIR!

The last time Seiffer recorded a top-10 was across Lake Erie in the LECOM Health Challenge and perhaps a return to this part of the US can spark a return to form; a return that isn’t inconceivable if he can find something on the greens.
