Qatar Masters: Antoine Rozner

Ranked fourth for strokes gained tee to green in Oman but couldn't capitalise on the greens. Still finished T10 and with second place at Mauritius Open, he is saving his best for the seaside.

Age and/or inexperience isn’t a barrier to victory as we saw on both the PGA and European Tour last week and i’m tipping Antoine Rozner to keep the trend going. At 27 years of age, Rozner isn’t straight out of college but he has only 77 starts as a professional and is still making his way in the world of golf.

The good news is he knows how to win. Last season he was triumphant twice on the Challenge Tour and he’s lost in a playoff at the end of the year in the Mauritius Open.

The common thread in the Frenchman’s form is that he is comfortable of the coast and playing in wind. He finished T21 at the KLM Open and last week impressed on the way to a T10 at the Oman Open. It was a result that could have been even better if he’d made a few more putts. Rozner ranked 6th for strokes gained off the tee and 15th for GIRs, he led the field in scrambling but was 107th in strokes gained putting.

To put that into context, he also ranked 29th in 3-putt avoidance; he wasn’t making mistakes on the green just not capitalising on some excellent ball-striking. That is what he needs this week in Doha but he has the game and shouldn’t be 110/1.
