Puerto Rico Open: Taylor Pendrith

Rare opportunity to show what he is capable of on the PGA Tour and somehow played this event in 2019. Probably needed the runout last week (T23) after a long break. Has the ability to win.

Regular readers know how highly I rate Taylor Pendrith. I believe he is capable of winning on the PGA Tour - well here is his chance!

The Canadian would have a PGA Tour card by now if it wasn’t for the Covid-19 pandemic but a win in Puerto Rico could change all that. Somehow he’s got himself into the field and not for the first time as he played this event in 2019, missing the cut by two shots.

Pendrith is a much better player thanks to a combination of experience and managing injury. Due to being stuck on the Korn Ferry Tour he didn’t make his return to action until last week with a T23 finish at the LECOM Suncoast Classic. Understandably after the break, he made some uncharacteristic mistakes but he only finished 6 shots behind the winner and had to play in some of the worst conditions.

The experience of playing in the wind serves as a good prep if the weather forecast for Puerto Rico is to be believed, whilst his big hitting is reminiscent of Tony Finau who won here not long off the Korn Ferry Tour (formerly Web.com). The layers have gotten wise to Pendrith but he’s still a fair price for a golfer of his talent.
