Presidents Cup Betting Preview

The USA host an International team in this Ryder Cup style competition. We compare the two star-studded lineups.

The big golfing event this week is the Presidents Cup at Muirfield Village. Twelve American players take on the best from outside of Europe, in the tenth edition of the event.

Similar to the Ryder Cup, it is a team event but played over four days with six foursomes and six fourballs on Thursday and Friday and five foursomes/fourballs on Saturday ensuring that every player is involved. With 34 points up for grabs, 17.5 is the magic number needed to win.

Team USA have home advantage and are the 1/3 (Boylesports) favourites. Fred Couples’ team will be feeling confident having never lost at home and won seven out of nine Presidents Cup.

The USA have the edge in terms of experience with their team having played 56 more matches and whilst Fred Couples fields three debutants, Nick Price has seven players making their first start.

Compare the two teams on official world rankings and the USA are stronger with an average ranking of 13.6 compared to 33.3 for the International team.

Hunter Mahan has the best record of the participants who have contested more than one Presidents Cup and he is 12/1 (Paddy Power) to be the top American points scorer.
