Portugal Open Tips: Borja Virto
Finished T12-T5 on his last two starts and won twice on the Challenge Tour in 2015.
The Open de Portugal is the main event on the European Tour but don’t be misled by the billing it holds dual-ranking status with the Challenge Tour. In fact, looking through the field you could just call it a Challenge Tour event and be done with it.
Nevertheless, this is an excellent opportunity for someone to earn a big cheque and status on the European Tour and Borj Virto looks up to the task.
In 2015, he won twice and finished third on the Challenge Tour money list and is therefore comfortable at this level. His debut season on the European Tour was a bit of a struggle and just missed his card by finished 131 on the money list.
However, there were a few high points, most of them around this time last year including a T9 at the China Open. The second half of 2016 didn’t go to plan as the pressure told but having stepped down a level he seems to have regained his confidence. On his last two starts he’s finished T12-T5 and looks ready to win again.
