Portugal Masters: Lee Slattery

Course form isn't anything special but has two top-25s and playing better than bare results this season. 68th in scoring average and has been putting well for several months.

Sat 115th on the Race To Dubai there’s plenty of pressure on Lee Slattery this week but the Englishman has plenty of experience and has been playing some good stuff of late. The mid-summer break probably came at the wrong time for Slattery, he’d just recorded his best result of the season (T9 at Scottish Open) and then had no competitive golf.

Since then the 41-year-old has made 7/9 cuts but not cracked the top-30 in any event. Last week he finished T32 in Paris, a good result where he showed up strongly tee-to-green and on the greens themselves. That is where the big difference has come this season. Slattery is ranked 29th in putts per GIR and he will need a hot putter at an event where the scoring is traditionally very low.

Ranked 68th on tour for stroke average he’s unlucky to find himself battling to save a tour card and although Victoria Golf Course isn’t an obvious fit he has a couple of top-25s in ten starts.

If the forecast breezy conditions materialise, his chances improve and he is a shade big at 90/1.
