Portland Open: Austin Cook

Portland Open: Austin Cook

Made 15 birdies and an eagle when T50 here last year. Has four top-10s in his last six starts on tour and lack of length off the tee not a factor here.

Sat 16th on the Money List Austin Cook should have done enough to secure a tour card next year but there still plenty to play for. The higher you finish on the money list the better your status and Cook will want to go as far as he can in the remaining Web.com Tour events.

The 26-year-old already has the game for the PGA Tour, he bagged two top-10s in the 2015 and must be itching to get back into the big time. A win at any level would look good on his CV and that is the only thing missing this season.

In his last six starts he’s finished 7-2-7-21-31-10 and Witch Hollow at Pumpkin Ridge is one of the few courses where more modest hitters can competitive with the tour’s bombers.

Cook is 93rd in driving distance but he is 4th in accuracy and in the top-25 for putting, GIRs and scoring average. Last year he finished T50 but made 15 birdies and an eagle during the week. I he can cut out the mistakes, as he’s done recently on tour, he can win.
