PGA Tour Betting Tip: Jason Dufner

Already close to his maiden victory this year, he is ready to make that final step at 100/1.

It is a sign of how European golf is in the ascendancy when the top four in the betting for the Honda Classic are all British – for a US Tour event no less.

I’m going against the crowd on this one. There is no specific reason why the Brits couldn’t win this week, I just don’t think they are value. Even with their lofty World Rankings they are not much better than the field, especially on a course they hardly ever play.

The PGA National Champion Course hosts the event; a test of a golfer’s all round game, which could be made even harder with 20mph winds forecast for the first two days.

Still a maiden after 135 starts, Jason Dufner doesn’t look like an obvious bet, but if he is going to win anywhere it is here. The American is having his best season to date, only missing out in a playoff at the Phoenix Open at the start of February.  Two closing sub-70 rounds at the Northern Trust Open a fortnight ago shows he is still in good form.

His record at the PGA National is equally good. Three made cuts in three appearances, include a T-13 and T-9, demonstrate he can play the golf course. At 100/1 with Bet365 he is a good each way tip.
